About Us

Nestled in the heart of Reading’s Callowhill District, the historic WCR Center for the Arts has been the principal venue for concerts of the Friends of Chamber Music of Reading for half a century. Built as a merchant’s home in the mid-19th Century, it became the Wyomissing Club at the turn of the 20th Century, then the Woman’s Club of Reading shortly thereafter. The ladies of the Club added its distinctive auditorium around 1919, and through the remainder of the past century, provided the community with numerous cultural events, including concerts, theatrical productions, lectures, meetings and social gatherings.

In 2004, a group of local civic leaders took over ownership of the building and formed the not-for-profit organization WCR Center for the Arts, Inc., whose mission has been to preserve this historic facility to support the arts and community engagement.
